Overview
A research terminal for U.S. small-cap markets. It observes market data, flags unusual volume, checks filings and news for possible catalysts, and keeps structured research notes.
Why it exists
Small U.S. stocks move fast and loudly. It is easy to mistake a story for evidence.
Stock Lab is a research terminal for nano- and micro-caps built around four verbs: Observe, Investigate, Record, Learn — with real trading switched off.
How it works
Three radars narrow the field. Each candidate is then investigated against SEC filings and market data, recorded with its outcome — success, failure or no entry — and reviewed later.
Every data point carries a provenance grade (REAL, DEMO or UNAVAILABLE), is stored in UTC, and is guarded against look-ahead leaks so the past is never judged with the future.
Core capabilities
Radar A · Technology
Tech/patent pre-selection, checked against SEC XBRL fundamentals and dilution risk.
Radar B · Ignition
Volume/ignition detection, then reverse-investigation of the catalyst. When the orderbook is empty, spread is shown as unknown.
Radar C · IPO calendar
A calendar of upcoming technology IPOs.
Filings
SEC EDGAR filings as primary evidence.
Market data collector
Quotes, 1-minute bars and a trades/quotes websocket collector across pre, regular and after-hours sessions.
Paper trading
Paper trades on real data under fixed rules: no averaging down, no leverage, max 5 holdings.
Technical approach
- 01Radars A · B · C
- 02Investigate: EDGAR + market data
- 03Provenance grade
- 04Record: success · failure · no entry
- 05Paper trade (rules)
- 06Learn
Practical applications
- Studying how small caps react to events, like the OLB event-aftershock case study.
- Keeping an honest log of ideas that were not taken.
- Testing research rules on paper before believing them.
Development journey
- Started as a filing-and-volume research notebook.
- Added the three radars, provenance grades and look-ahead protection.
- Built a market-data collector; real-session observation is pending as of October 2026.
Current status & limitations
Implemented
- Radars A, B and C
- SEC EDGAR filings and XBRL fundamentals
- Provenance grades, UTC storage, look-ahead leak prevention
- Success / failure / no-entry records
- Paper trading on real data with capital rules
Planned / not yet active
- Real-session observation with the market-data collector (pending as of Oct 2026)
- Micro Live — locked
Real trading is disabled. Micro Live is locked, and the system makes no order or account API calls. Nothing here is investment advice, and no profit is claimed.
Future direction
- Run the collector through real sessions and review the data.
- More case studies in the style of the OLB study.
- Keep paper-only until the research itself earns more.
